Heavy rain washes out India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI in Hamilton
Rain forced the abandonment Sunday of the second one-day cricket international between New Zealand and India at Seddon Park.
New Zealand retain a 1-0 lead in the three-match series which concludes at Christchurch on Wednesday. Sunday’s match began, a little late, as a 50 overs match after New Zealand won a delayed toss.
India were 22 without loss after 4.5 overs when the first rain interruption occurred. When play resumed more than 3-1/2 hours later, the match had been reduced to 29 overs per side. Eight more overs had been bowled and India had moved on to 89-1 when the rain returned.
With no possibility of a match being completed, play finally was abandoned. Shubman Gill was 45 not out and Suryakumar Yadav 34 not out when the abandonment was announced.
